BUILDING BRIDGES

A 501(c)3 Non-profit Organization

In 1939 the Golden Gate International Exhibition was built on Treasure Island, at the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and over 15 million people from around the world visited it. On February 18, 2021, when the Covid 19 Pandemic Lockdowns persisted, and only 15 people were allowed in the front of the building to celebrate the anniversary, Building Bridges partnered with United States Postal Service to create a Building Bridges Special Postal Cancellation and Ceremony, with Treasure Island Museum for access to the Island with Treasure Island Development Agency and with 2021 Commodore Patti Mangan of the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association for 50 boats to gather circumnavigate around Treasure Island in a Regatta, reminiscent of the 1939 PICYA Regatta held during the World’s Fair. In for the Treasure Island World Fair Anniversary Celebrations 1939-2022, plane flyovers were organized by Building Bridges Flight Path Director and a swing dance were added and today, the 360 degree parade around Treasure Island and the plane flyovers add to the Treasure Island Museum’s planned anniversary celebrations.

Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association (PICYA) now does their 360 degree Regatta of Treasure Island on the weekend closest to the Anniversary of Feb 18th, 1939 as part of the Treasure Island World Fair Anniversary Celebrations. Karen Lile is Liaison between Treasure Island Museum and PICYA and Building Bridges Flight Path Director, Stephen Tucker arranges the plane flyovers simultaneous to the boat REgatta
